Ratna Karan

Postdoc Ratna Karan is a research associate at the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. He received his B.S. from the Institute of Agricultural Sciences at Banaras Hindu University and M.S. from Indira Gandhi Agricultural University. He went on to earn his Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University. Following his education, he held three separate fellowships in India, and more recently, held a postdoc position at Louisiana State University.

Karan is involved in molecular characterization of genes and promoters for enhancement of photosynthesis and stress tolerance by genetically engineering sugarcane. He will be working with transformations of sugarcane for field trials.

The PETROSS project is funded by ARPA-E (Advanced Research Projects Agency—Energy) within the U.S. Department of Energy.
