Vijay Singh

Professor Vijay Singh is the Associate Director of the Center of Advanced BioEnergy Research at the University of Illinois. He is also a faculty member of two departments within the University’s College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, where he received his M.S. and Ph.D. in food and bioprocess engineering. Before coming to University of Illinois, he received his B.S. in Agricultural Engineering from G.B. Pant University in India. Singh is the recipient of multiple awards, including the Young Faculty Excellence Award from the Corn Refiners Association. He is the author of over 120 articles.

Singh’s research focuses on the development of bioprocessing technologies for corn biomass to ethanol, advanced biofuels, food and industrial products. As part of the PETROSS project, his group is performing techno-economic analyses of the processes involved in the recovery of oil from sugarcane and sweet sorghum.

The PETROSS project is funded by ARPA-E (Advanced Research Projects Agency—Energy) within the U.S. Department of Energy.
